My name is Joseph Clements, owner of Knife Makers Database.com. I have devoted much time to the world of business and computer science, and most of all, to collecting custom knives which I have thouroughly enjoyed now for over 15 years. The idea of starting this site came to me when I realized as a collector that the resources for custom knife collectors were fairly limited. Far worse are the number of resources available to the knife makers themselves in regards to assuring the potential customer knows his site exists. Even the #1 place for resources in regards to any hobby, the Internet, is lacking in certain areas. Having a degree in business and having been a knife collector myself for many years, I've used my combined knowledge to create a site where every knife maker I could find is right here, under one, say, "digital roof."
This was our original introduction / "mission"
from over 6 years ago...
If you're a knifemaker, this site is the ultimate form of Internet advertising. If you're a custom knife collector, it is the ultimate resource - a database of custom knifemakers, if you will. Many times, a specific makers page will get lost on the web. They'll find that among the barrage of custom knife sites available today, their site is but one that may never be discovered by a potential customer, especially if a person is using a search engine and doesn't type the makers name directly into the browser! Even then, It's more than likely nothing will come up. This is extremely unfortunate because some of the best knives out there are on small sites like these! One of the biggest aims of this site is to bring all the smaller custom knife sites on the web together in one place where they're sure not to be missed! I charge absolutely nothing toward any knifemaker for advertising his link in our database on this site. I know it sounds too good to be true, but I feel the knifemaker has the hard end of the job (although I don't know one who considers it a job over a passion). After all, without them, we wouldn't have a hobby! This site is in its infancy, but I expect it to keep growing as I put a lot of work into it on a daily basis and I'm a firm believer, as I'm sure many knifemakers are, that you get out what you put into something.
Our dedicated team at Knifemakers Database offers a variety of services to knifemakers including but not limited to - custom knife consignment, advertising services such as links, banners, and full page portfolios, web site construction, custom knife photography services and graphic design services just to name a few. If you are interested in any of our services or just want to learn a little more about what we can do for you and your business, feel free to contact any of our departments through our contact page. We will be setting up a "services" page in the near future as well in order to provide you with more detailed information.
Beside the services we offer to the custom knife community, we will also be working with knifemakers to bring our visitors some of the best quality custom knives available on the Internet. While our selection is small at the moment, it will grow in the future as we expand the site . As a custom knife purveyor, we follow a strict set of rules to assure total satisfaction in each and everyone of our clients. Our moto is Honesty, Integrity and Loyalty before Material, Money and Self. The fact is that most purveyors on the Internet buy knives from custom knifemakers and then offer them up for sale at a slightly higher rate. The premium (their profit) that you pay is for the immidiate availablity of the knife you want. Most of the time, when you order a custom knife from a knifemaker, it can take weeks, if not months for the knife to be ready depending on the current demand for that makers knives. The higher the demand, the harder it is to get a knife from that knifemaker. The harder it is to get a knife, the more a purveyor can charge for having that knife immidiately available. This is not a bad thing - You can expect to pay a premium for an immdiately available knife because time is litterally money. If it were not for the purveyors who buy the knives on their sites from the knifemakers, it would be extremely hard for many of the knifemakers out there to make a business out of what they do. It would in turn be even harder to get the knife you want - when you want it.
The bad thing is when the cost of a knife is blown way out of proportion due to this premium. It is therefore of the utmost importance to know who you're buying from as well as what the average cost of the knife in question would be, if ordered directly from the knifemaker. Some of the knives on our site may include this form of profit. Many may not. It all depends on what we can get the knives for. At knifemakersdatabase.com, we strive to form a genuine relationship with the knifemakers we work with in order to get you , our client, the best price possible on the knife you want. As our customer, you can expect to be treated as if you were our best customer, every time. We have no qualms about directing you to another purveyor if we don't have what you want, so let us know what you want! We also list the knifemakers sites in our database so you can easily see what they charge for a knife of the same type - and how long the wait may be. We also place a "Custom Knives Available" link next to knifemakers in our database who may have knives available at the time. It's all about getting you what you want.
As mentioned before, we are a fairly new site. In order for us to become the asset to the community of knifemakers & knife collectors that we wish to become, we need your support. Feel free to sign up in our guest book on the home page. We want to get to know our supporters. If you are a knifemaker or custom knife dealer / knife purveyor looking to participate in this site by either linking through us or by selling knives with us, we would be more than happy to help you! At Knifemakers Database.com, our mission is to keep you looking sharp! For further information, please contact me. Thanks again for coming and be well!

We are the largest, most definitive directory of custom knifemakers
In the World. Period.
All of the above still holds true...
Except for the part about us being in our infancy of course! With the help of many wonderful individuals I have met over the years, many knife makers, and of course, many, many, many visitors and clients, KnifeMakersDatabase.com has reached a new plateau - an entirely new level in the industry - that was a mere vision over 6 years ago.
With the aim of becoming the largest directory of custom knifemakers on the Internet, I set out single handedly and began to compile a massive amount of data, comprised of the sites / links of well over one thousand individual custom knifemakers. Over many sleepless nights, the database grew and grew. I knew the site would be valuable to those who could find it!
I never imagined we would become so popular.
It was a relentless battle to achieve a top position on the search engines, but after years of tweaking this and coding that, KMD finally began to appear for relatively common search phrases. Eventually, we were on the first page for "Knifemakers," but still on sixty-something for the ever so popular, "custom knives." Ah, Custom Knives - the ultimate search phrase.
Search Engine Optimization is not an easy task. I didn't have the money to pay for such a service and there is always the risk of falling victim to so much chicanery by all these so called, "SEO Specialists." Again, I would do all of this myself, in my spare time while working a day job and attending college at night. It looked, at certain times, impossible.
But adhering to the golden rule, "never give up," I kept at it and finally, one day out of the blue, it happened. I guess all those Computer Science classes paid off for something!
So now, there we are - six years later and many pages larger, we were rewarded for all our herd work and persistence with a top spot on the mother of all search engines, Google.
We now get more traffic then we can keep track of at times, and so much email - forgive me if I get back to you a bit late...
So now, I want to invite you - the knifemaker - to take part in our amazing site. Join us and trust me, you will get more business then you will know what to do with. This is something I specialize in and take pride in. I consider myself a master at getting your name known. I've done it for several knifemakers and will do it for you too... I still get order after order for one individual who unfortunately disappeared. His loss. Call the number above and let’s talk. Let's make you Number One.
