Earlier on, at the request of several of our visitora, we promised to get in some more knives by knifemaker and bladesmith, Rusty Polk. In 2006, Rusty earned his Journeyman Smith Stamp from the American Bladesmith Society at the Blade Show in Atlanta. That year he went on to win awards for "Best Bowie" as well as "Best Damascus" (we chose these knives for that reason among many others) at the KGA show in OK city. Now in 2007, he has been dubbed the "Journeyman Smith of the Year" by the American Bladesmith Society.
My point is that Rusty is going places - fast. And when knifemakers of his caliber "go places" so does the demand for their knives. Of course, this means the value of the makers work goes up as well. Rusty plans to go for his Master Smith stamp sometime in 2008, at which time, you can forget about getting one of his competition bowies for the price we're offering it at. Just thought I'd let you know.
This is the Bowie that Rusty uses to compete in - and win - the cutting competitions held at various shows throughout the year. The bowie Rusty makes for use is offered up for sale at its completion. If it sells, he makes another for himself, so what you're getting here is a knife that Rusty made with winning in mind.
A competition knife needs to be perfectly balanced in speed and power. The size, length, drop in the handle, weight, blade density and edge are all factors that are painstakingly scrutinized over during the forging process. The result is a knife capable of chopping through 2x4's in mere seconds and flying through ropes with a single swing.
When held, this knife truly becomes an extension of the arm. It slices through the air with a whisper. The super-hard razor sharp edge backed by a more flexible spine just look ready to remove anything in their path. This knife demands respect.
The stag bowie is possibly one of the most collectible, all-American style knives you could hope to find, and truthfully, no custom collection should be without one. The leather and rattlesnake skin sheath completes this awesome package with a brilliant touch. More pictures available upon request.
